The Enduring Legacy of Eric Shutt

For two and a half decades, Eric Shutt impacted the lives of countless people as a Private Wealth Advisor and Founder of Emerald Wealth Management. Fearless, driven, hilarious, and whip-smart, Eric was immensely proud of his chosen profession. He saw nobility in helping people plan their financial futures and he cherished being able to instill confidence in his clients as he guided them towards achieving their dreams.

At the beginning of his career, Eric joined Northwestern Mutual after graduating from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Finance. He started out in the industry as a Financial Representative in 1999 and quickly became one of the leading advisors in the Northwestern Mutual network, achieving top premium, AUM, and new client milestones and recognition throughout.

Even before he received his cancer diagnosis in 2016, he had set out to build an enduring firm – a true fiduciary committed to always putting his clients' interests first. In 2020, Eric officially teamed up with Darren Trautmann and Brendan Foor to develop a comprehensive wealth management practice with built-in succession planning to ensure a continuity of care and peace of mind for his clients; something he felt a deep responsibility for from the onset. Emerald soon became one of the leading wealth management teams in Seattle dedicated to empowering our clients and local community for generations to come.

As a mentor and leader of our team, Eric played an integral role in helping his team members believe that they could reach their greatest potential in life and consistently showed us that life was worth living to the absolute fullest. Through non-stop perseverance, a dedication to our clients’ best interests, and a clear belief in the multi-generational success of this firm, Eric and the Emerald Wealth Management team built the practice into the premier wealth management firm that it is today. In 2023, Eric achieved the prestigious designation of Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors and he proudly served on the Professional Advisory Council for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, raised approximately $200,000 for their cancer research efforts, and supported many other charitable organizations.

Eric passed away in October of 2023, but his DNA is forever embedded in the firm that he loved. His legacy of helping people turn their financial dreams into realities, and protect the financial future of their loved ones, including his own family, endures. He is enormously missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and clients and is survived by his loving wife, Daniela, and his three amazing children, Oliver, Grayson, and Lucia.
